Services We Offer

Pet gundog training.

Gundog training can be very beneficial for pet dogs, especially pet gundogs. Not only does the training build on behaviours which everybody wants in their dog such as heel work, recall and listening to cues at a distance. It also gives dogs an appropriate outlet for their genetic traits. This course will be fun and informative and will help you build a stronger relationship with your dog.
It is a 6 week course covering various exercises.🐾 How to use a placeboard in training.🐾Teaching your dog a stop whistle. 🐾A send away round a cone/post.🐾Forward focus.🐾 The beginnings of directional work. And much more.

We will also explain all the different whistle cues and what they are used for. The course will include information on how to classically condition your dogs recall whistle.

There are certain criteria that we require for dogs undertaking the course. They will have to have completed a puppy or basic obedience course with a positive reinforcement trainer prior to attending. They must be able to perform a 30 second sit stay at your side, and have a basic understanding of heel work.
Don’t hesitate to call for further information. We can’t wait to train with you and your dog! 🐾

1:1 Training

Are you struggling with focus and connection with your dog? Is your dog not coming back when called? Do they pull on lead?
I offer 1:1 training for various training needs. Get in touch for a chat to see if I can help.

Who We Are

Hi and welcome. My name is Gemma. I have always been an animal lover and when I was a child dreamt of having a job working at an animal sanctuary or with dogs. That wasn’t to be for some time. I had a successful career as a nurse in A&E for many years. During that time I got myself my first dog as an adult. Albie wasn’t / isn’t an easy dog. He is an anxious boy and he led me to start finding out as much as I could about how dogs learn and how I could help my boy cope in the world. I left the NHS and set up as a dog walker in 2018.  The more time I spent around dogs the more interested I became in learning as much as I could about what makes them tick and how to make their lives more enriching. I did lots of training games and enriching activities with the dogs I walked and started to become interested in dog training. I studied with the NOCN at Waggawuffins Canine College in 2020, receiving a distinction in my studies  ‘Training people to train dogs’. I went back to work as a nurse during covid and then started to gain experience working with other trainers prior to setting up my business. I set up Wuthering Hounds Dog Training in 2022.
I have a particular passion for gundog breeds. My English Springer Spaniel has taught me so much and together we have achieved so much. I have so much fun training him, and have been out beating with him for the past two seasons, and he’s done me proud mostly… he is a spaniel after all 😜. I have since got a second ESS Newt, who I am currently training to be a working gundog. I am passionate about continued learning. I did the Gundog Trainers academy handlers course last year, and I am currently working towards becoming an accredited instructor with the Gundog Trainers Academy, undertaking their tutors course. I have also completed various other webinars with professional bodies and continue to do so. I am a dog geek, and at every given opportunity I’m training my own dogs, other peoples dogs, reading about dogs or listening to podcasts about dogs.
