At Wuthering Hounds Dog Training, I use kind, reward-based, and science-led methods to help you build a strong, trusting relationship with your dog. I offer 1:1 training sessions in Hebden Bridge and nearby areas, as well as companion gundog foundation classes in Hebden Bridge.
I also run foundation, progressive, and advanced companion gundog classes in Barnoldswick in collaboration with Startrite Dog Training.

Meet Gemma...
Hi, I’m Gemma, a lifelong animal lover and proud dog geek! After many years as an A&E nurse, my first dog as an adult, Albie, inspired a new path. His anxiety led me to learn everything I could about how dogs think and thrive.
I became a dog walker in 2018, this led me to want to study further and learn more about dog training. I went on to study dog training and earned a distinction in Training People to Train Dogs with Waggawuffins Canine College in 2020, and launched Wuthering Hounds Dog Training in 2022 after gaining experience with other trainers helping in classes and shadowing 1:1 sessions.
I use reward based training methods focusing on building a great relationship between you and your dog, building motivation, connection and confidence in both you and your dog using clear boundaries and positive methods to get the results you want.
I have a special interest in gun dog breeds,and their crosses particularly spaniels. I appreciate the challenges they may present living in pet homes and have a passion for helping owners understand their dogs, and meet their needs through breed specific training.
I currently own 3 dogs Albie who is my old boy and the reason I went down the dog training rabbit hole. Also, Badger and Newt my 2 english springer spaniels. Badger is my trusty beating dog whom i work throughout the shooting season on a small syndicate shoot. Newt is teaching me lots of new things as I attempt to learn about competing with spaniels.
I take professional development and learning seriously. Alongside reading, attending courses, webinars and listening to dog training podcasts I have also gained further qualifications since qualifying as a dog trainer. I am a Gundog Trainers Academy accredited instructor and an ABTC animal training instructor also.
Certified TPTD via NOCN, trained at Waggawuffins Canine college (2020) instructors course.

🐾 1:1 Training
Are you struggling with focus or connection with your dog? Do they pull on the lead or ignore your recall? My 1:1 training sessions are designed around your dog’s unique needs, helping you tackle specific challenges and build a stronger bond together.
Lot’s of people also attend these 1:1 sessions for breed specific companion gundog training, to learn keys skills, obedience and breed specific fun to tap into their dogs genetics and build a better connection.
Each session lasts one hour and is fully tailored to your goals. You’ll get a face-to-face session with me, along with written guidance and/or video demonstrations where relevant. Sessions are pay as you go at £50 per hour.

🐾 Companion Gundog Training
I collaborate with my dear friend and colleague Kathryn from Startrite Dog Training to offer companion gundog classes.Our gundog Training Course is perfect for those with unemployed gundog breeds (or mixes) who want a fun, structured way to channel their dogs’ natural instincts. Gundog-style training builds great everyday skills like recall, heel work, and responsiveness, whilst giving your dog a rewarding outlet for their drive and focus.
The foundation class is a six-week course which includes six one-hour sessions, access to training videos and class materials, and membership to a private Facebook group where you can share progress and ask questions. You’ll also receive a welcome pack with gundog essentials, including a whistle and guidance on how to build a strong recall cue.
We’ll cover:

The course costs £125, and once you’ve completed the foundation level, you can progress to our novice, progressive and advanced outdoor classes.

🐾 Puppy Training
I don’t currently run group puppy classes, but I do offer personalised 1:1 puppy training, perfect for getting your puppy off to the best possible start.
Each session is tailored to your puppy and your lifestyle, covering everything from play biting and toilet training to socialisation, confidence-building, and preventing separation anxiety, all in the comfort of your own home.
If you’re expecting a puppy soon, I also offer pre-arrival visits to help you prepare your home and understand key developmental stages, including how to make the most of the vital early socialisation period.
I can help you understand your gundog puppy’s breed’s instincts and guide you in building healthy, positive behaviours from day one.
