Meet Gemma...

Hi, I’m Gemma, a lifelong animal lover and proud dog geek! After many years as an A&E nurse, my first dog as an adult, Albie, inspired a new path. His anxiety led me to learn everything I could about how dogs think and thrive.

I became a dog walker in 2018, this led me to want to study further and learn more about dog training. I went on to study dog training and earned a distinction in Training People to Train Dogs with Waggawuffins Canine College in 2020, and launched Wuthering Hounds Dog Training in 2022 after gaining experience with other trainers helping in classes and shadowing 1:1 sessions.

I use reward based training methods focusing on building a great relationship between you and your dog, building motivation, connection and confidence in both you and your dog using clear boundaries and positive methods to get the results you want.
I have a special interest in gun dog breeds, and their crosses particularly spaniels. I appreciate the challenges they may present living in pet homes and have a passion for helping owners understand their dogs, and meet their needs through breed specific training.

I currently own 3 dogs Albie who is my old boy and the reason I went down the dog training rabbit hole. Also, Badger and Newt my 2 english springer spaniels. Badger is my trusty beating dog whom i work throughout the shooting season on a small syndicate shoot. Newt is teaching me lots of new things as I attempt to learn about competing with spaniels.

I take professional development and learning seriously. Alongside reading, attending courses, webinars and listening to dog training podcasts I have also gained further qualifications since qualifying as a dog trainer. I am a Gundog Trainers Academy accredited instructor and an ABTC animal training instructor also.

I cannot recommend Wuthering Hounds Dog Training enough. Gemma has been supporting us with our now 10 month old standard poodle, Doris, pretty much from the start. Doris was really nervous when we brought her home, so we began with 1:1 puppy sessions at home that were completely tailored to her, as she wouldn’t have been able to cope in classes. There was no pressure to rush her, which made such a difference. We also do 1:1 training and training walks with Gemma. She has helped Doris build so much confidence in her environment and around other dogs and people. She has also helped me feel much more confident and happier as an owner too. Especially when it comes to handling tricky situations, I feel I understand her triggers so much more now. Doris absolutely adores Gemma and really trusts her. The progress we have seen is all down to Gemma’s knowledge, patience, and genuinely kind approach. I would recommend her without hesitation and, honestly, it’s not just Doris who looks forward to the training walks, I do too!

******** Gemma trained both my partner and I, and our puppy Fester. With her guidance, he has grown into a well mannered, playful boy. Her expertise and friendly attitude to training made the experience a delight. Gemma's unique approach has helped us to strengthen our bond with Fester. I would highly recommend her services.

I have been working with Gemma on a 1-2-1 basis with my dog who is often a bit nervous. We have made great strides and I have learned a lot in terms of understanding my dog, his cues and behaviours. Gemma is knowledgeable and supportive and importantly, she is great with my dog! He adores her and trusts her. Gemma has a gift of making the training fun for both human and canine. Thanks Gemma, can’t wait to continue the learning journey.

We have been seeing Gemma on a 121 basis for around 3 months now. Our rescue Yorkie Eddie loves training and we wanted something to further improve his focus and engagement around distractions outside. Gemma's pet gun dog sessions have been a game changer, she has even managed to help us achieve a retrieve from cover which I didnt think he would have the confidence to do! Gemma's positive reward based methods have allowed Eddie the confidence to try things out. He loves her, and he loves her training sessions! Highly recommended!
